We already knew Zach Cregger wasn’t exactly planning to play nice with his take on RESIDENT EVIL, but apparently the man looked at the concept of an infected city and thought, “You know what this needs? A whole lot more people falling off buildings.” We know there are a few folks out there who are grinding their teeth at this new take on the Resident Evil franchise, but as the kids say, I wanna see if Cregger can “cook”.
The first full clip from Cregger’s upcoming RESIDENT EVIL has arrived, and it gives us a pretty glorious taste of just how nasty this movie intends to get. The nearly three-minute sequence puts Austin Abrams‘ character Bryan in the middle of an infected city, where the locals appear to have developed a rather extreme solution to their situation…by doing high dives off buildings—no F’s givin.
The director has already made it clear that he wasn’t interested in making a tame version of the legendary video game franchise, and this clip certainly doesn’t suggest he’s backing away from that promise.

Cregger previously told Empire Magazine that RESIDENT EVIL is “definitely the most violent thing I’ve done.“ He added, “You gotta go grotesque! I wanted to go all the way.“
The film stars Abrams as Bryan, a medical courier who finds himself caught in a nightmare when one horrifying night sends the city into complete chaos. Zach Cherry (Severance), Kali Reis (True Detective: Night Country), Paul Walter Hauser (Black Bird) and Johnno Wilson (Twisted Metal) also star.
Based on the iconic RESIDENT EVIL video game franchise, Cregger’s film has been described as a “thrilling — and terrifying — reinvention of the RESIDENT EVIL franchise” from the filmmaker behind Barbarian and Weapons. Considering Cregger’s previous work, that description probably should have included a warning label for anyone with a weak stomach.
The movie has also earned an R rating for “strong bloody violence, gore and language throughout.” After watching infected people turn themselves into human meteorites in the new footage, we’re not exactly shocked.
Tickets are already on sale, and RESIDENT EVIL infects theaters on September 18, 2026.
