If you have been waiting for an excuse to put The Goon back on your bookshelf, Dark Horse Books and Albatross Books have one hell of a reason coming next year. The beloved deluxe hardcover editions of Eric Powell‘s award winning crime pulp series are returning to print, beginning with THE GOON LIBRARY EDITION VOLUME 1 (SECOND EDITION) in March 2027.

The new editions will collect Powell’s series in a slightly more compact 7 by 10 inch format, with all five volumes of the Library Edition series receiving the new treatment. Volume 1 clocks in at a hefty 496 pages and brings together The Goon Volumes 0 through 3, giving both longtime fans and newcomers a substantial chunk of Powell’s wonderfully twisted world in one hardcover.

For anyone unfamiliar with The Goon, the series follows its hulking title character as he operates within a world of gangsters, monsters, supernatural weirdness and plenty of extremely bad decisions. In the first volume, the Zombie Priest arrives with plans to build an undead army and move in on territory controlled by crime boss Labrazio and his formidable enforcer, the Goon. Things get considerably more complicated when the Priest uncovers a secret the Goon would very much prefer to keep buried.

That combination of crime pulp and supernatural mayhem is a big part of what has made Powell’s creation such a standout, and the return of the Library Editions gives readers another opportunity to experience the series in an oversized hardcover collection.

Powell, whose other work includes DID YOU HEAR WHAT EDDIE GEIN DONE? and DR. WERTHLESS, has written and illustrated The Goon throughout its run. The series has earned plenty of recognition over the years, making these hardcover collections particularly appealing to fans who want the complete stories presented as substantial bookshelf editions rather than hunting down individual volumes.

THE GOON LIBRARY EDITION VOLUME 1 (SECOND EDITION) is scheduled to arrive in comic shops and bookstores on March 2, 2027, with a retail price of $59.99. Preorders are already available through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, local comic shops and bookstores.

And Dark Horse isn’t stopping with Volume 1. Library Edition Volumes 2 through 5 are also getting the Second Edition treatment, with the remaining books scheduled to roll out throughout 2027 and 2028.

For fans who have been collecting The Goon for years, this is a chance to revisit one of Eric Powell’s most celebrated creations in a new format. For anyone who has somehow managed to avoid the series until now, 2027 might be a pretty good time to find out what all the fuss is about.
