Today is TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE DAY, so what better way to celebrate Tobe Hooper‘s legendary horror classic than by cranking up the original score and letting the neighbors wonder what the hell is happening?

Waxwork Records is celebrating the film with a brand new deluxe picture disc release of THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE Original Motion Picture Score, featuring the work of Hooper and composer Wayne Bell.

Released in 1974, THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE follows a group of friends who stumble into the nightmare of a family of cannibals while traveling to an old family homestead. That’s the quick version, folks, and if you haven’t seen TCM by now, why are you even reading this? The Texas Chainsaw Massacre changed film and the horror genre in so many ways. It is literally a “must-see” movie you read about in “Top 10” lists.

This is a big deal not only for Waxwork but for collectors because it marks the first picture disc ever pressed by the label. The score has been sourced from the original master tapes and is presented as a picture disc LP.

The package also includes a heavyweight gatefold jacket with inner flood printing, exclusive liner notes from composer Wayne Bell and an 11 by 11 inch, 12 page booklet filled with production and behind-the-scenes photography. The full album design comes from Steve Reeves.

The music itself remains an important part of the film’s identity. Hooper and Bell created something strange, abrasive and unsettling that fits the grimy atmosphere of the movie perfectly. There is nothing polished about it, and that’s precisely why it works. The score feels like another piece of the nightmare.

The release includes the original 1974 score, picture disc presentation, Bell’s exclusive liner notes, the gatefold packaging, and the photography booklet, making this one hell of a way to celebrate one of horror’s most enduring films. You better jump on this one fast because once it’s gone, you’re going to be paying ridiculous prices for it in a few months.

THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE Original Motion Picture Score is available now from Waxwork Records.
