Ya can’t go wrong with a good creature feature, and we for one think we need more of them. So the news of a new one on the horizon is a pretty great bit of news for horror fans who like their monsters big, nasty, and hungry!
According to Deadline, Netflix has picked up CANOPY, a horror thriller from screenwriter Brandon Feldman, before the script even made it to the big screen.
So, what’s this one about? The site reports that CANOPY follows a botanist who ventures into the uncharted Amazon canopy in search of a rare medical cure. Sounds like a pretty important mission, right? Well, things take a turn for the worse when a local village offers her up as a sacrifice to an undiscovered apex predator lurking in the jungle. Yeah, we have a feeling this research trip isn’t going to end with a nice little field report.
Deadline compares the project to APEX, PREDATOR and THE SHALLOWS, which gives us a pretty good idea of the kind of survival nightmare we’re looking at. Put an isolated location, a desperate fight to stay alive, and an unknown creature into the mix, and you’ve got the makings of a solid creature feature.
Adam Goodman and Matt Skiena of Dichotomy, the production company behind JUROR #2, are set to produce. The project is still in the early stages, so there’s no word yet on casting, a director, or when we might actually get to see this thing come to life. So now we wait.
Hopefully, CANOPY delivers a creature worth losing a little sleep over.
