For all you bibliophiles out there, A24 is bringing CRYSTAL LAKE to the printed page with an official novelization of Peacock’s new Friday the 13th prequel series. If you have ever wanted to spend a little more time exploring the twisted history of Pamela Voorhees and her sweet boy Jason, this might be worth adding to your horror bookshelf.
Titled Crystal Lake: The Novel, the book is by Tim Waggoner and is available today (Oct 15th 2026), alongside the series’ streaming debut on Peacock. Priced at $20, the novel offers another way to explore the origins of one of horror’s most infamous mother and son duos.
“Crystal Lake don’t give up her dead.”

Official Synopsis: Based on the series created by Brad Caleb Kane, Crystal Lake: The Novel reinterprets the Voorhees family history as a grisly slasher saga. The story takes readers back to 1971, when the drowning death of 11-year-old Jason leaves his mother devastated. As Pam’s grief gradually turns into bloodlust, disturbing revelations threaten to expose secrets buried within the small town of Crystal Lake.
The television series stars Linda Cardellini as Pam Voorhees, with Callum Vinson appearing as young Jason. Rather than simply revisiting the familiar camp counselor killings, the eight episode prequel digs into Pam’s past and the events that helped shape the story behind the original 1980 Friday the 13th.

Of course, the new series has already become a talking point among horror fans, with reactions divided over its approach to the franchise’s mythology. Reported use of AI in portions of the production has also raised concerns among some viewers. Whether the show wins you over or leaves you wishing Jason would stick to the old fashioned machete business, the novel provides another avenue into this expanded version of the Voorhees story.

We’re always happy to see horror stories make their way into print. Novelizations can give readers another perspective on familiar characters, letting us spend more time inside their heads and explore the details that might not make it onto the screen. With Pam Voorhees at the center of this story, there’s certainly plenty of disturbing territory to explore.
So grab a copy, settle into your favorite reading spot and enjoy a little trip back to Crystal Lake. Just keep an eye on the tree line, and if you hear something moving around outside, maybe wait until morning before investigating.
After all, that hockey mask wearing fellow has a habit of ruining a perfectly good evening.
