We’re all about the comedic puns here at Truly Disturbing, but this one is almost too good to be true. A movie about a pot smoking bear is one thing. We already got that with Mark Wahlberg and TED. No, this isn’t that. SMOKEE is about a killer bear that happens to be a pothead, which is a very important distinction when we’re talking about something that wants to turn you into lunch.
Breaking Glass Pictures is bringing SMOKEE, a new horror comedy from writer and director Whit Whitman, to audiences, and the film is already available to stream on Fawesome as the distributor looks to expand its reach onto additional streaming and digital platforms.

The story takes place at a remote marriage counseling retreat where guests arrive expecting therapy, relaxation and perhaps a little time away from their everyday lives. Instead, cannabis fueled rituals and some seriously questionable decisions summon Smokee, a knife wielding demon bear, and suddenly that couples retreat has become a fight for survival.
Because apparently weed was supposed to mellow you out, man.

As the guests try to survive the weekend, their own secrets and grudges begin coming to the surface while the bizarre truth behind the retreat becomes increasingly difficult to ignore. Whitman mixes stoner comedy with supernatural horror and creature feature insanity, creating a movie that seems to understand exactly how ridiculous its central idea is and decides to run with it.
“Smokee is the kind of movie I love making: weird, funny, handmade, and completely committed to its own personality. We made it with limited resources but a lot of imagination,” Whitman said. “I chose Breaking Glass because they understand independent filmmakers and offbeat genre movies. They saw what made Smokee different and felt like the right team to help it find its audience.”
Breaking Glass Pictures CEO Rich Wolff also seems pretty confident that the movie has something audiences haven’t seen before.
“Smokee is exactly the kind of unique independent genre film we love,” Wolff said. “It’s funny, bloody and completely unpredictable.”
The film stars Lynn Lowry, Alexis “Lexi” Andrews, Timothy Pogue, Elley Ringo, Billy Crank, Anne Marie Olsen and a large ensemble cast, with Whitman producing alongside Rich Wolff and Susan Helfrich.
And look, we’re not going to pretend that SMOKEE is going to be mistaken for a nature documentary anytime soon. This is a movie about a demonic, knife wielding, weed smoking bear terrorizing people at a marriage retreat. That’s the pitch. That’s the movie.
So of course, we will be watching it.
