Once again, director Jason Lei Howden, releasing under Raven Banner Entertainment, unleashes the evil powers of The Black Hymn to raise some hell in Deathgasm II: Goremageddon.

Set 10 years after the events of the first film, Brodie (Milo Cawthorne) and Giles (Daniel Cresswell) live together after Medina (Kimberley Crossman) breaks up with Brodie for wasting his life. For the last decade, Brodie has been sulking over losing his best friend, Zakk (James Joshua Blake), and having his band, Deathgasm, forced to call it quits.
WHAT’S IT ABOUT?
While watching a news broadcast on TV, Brodie sees that a battle of the bands event called Noizequest is accepting submissions, where the winner receives $10,000 and a record contract. A local band called Rewind Her Funeral Tape, who just hired Medina as their new lead singer, have announced their plans to win the contest and are fan favorites for the event.
Brodie, still having the remaining pages of The Black Hymn, uses another ancient song to resurrect Zakk and Dion (Sam Berkley) so he can bring Deathgasm back in hopes that they can win Noizequest and Medina’s affections. As expected, Brodie’s use of The Black Hymn goes horribly wrong, and hell once again breaks loose.
Our Review
Deathgasm II, as expected, ups the ante on the gore and crude humor. It dials most of what we see in the first film up to 11. Unfortunately, it does lose some of the heart of the first film, but it makes up for that loss by adding fanfare and surprise cameos from some metal royalty.
If you thought the humor of the first film was tasteless, this movie dares you to hold its beer. I found myself genuinely cackling out loud during some scenes because of how ridiculous they were. There is one scene in particular in a strip club that blends the gore and humor into a disgustingly hilarious outcome.
This film, just like the first, is the perfect marriage of Beavis and Butt-Head and the original Evil Dead. It’s silly, funny, gory, and over the top, in all the best ways. The returning cast does a great job showing how these characters have grown over the past 10 years. Their chemistry and the way they play off each other always lands and remains entertaining.
If you were a fan of the 2015 film, Deathgasm II: Goremageddon continues the metallic mayhem and proves there is no sophomore slump with this sequel.
