We had to see the movie that sparked so many conversations, memes, TikToks, and reels. In this new age of trauma horror, “Obsession” is one of the films everyone has been talking about. Now streaming on Peacock, I knew the basic premise going in, but I intentionally avoided the trailers. Looking back, I kind of wish I had seen it in theaters because I can only imagine how audiences reacted to some of the film’s biggest moments.
A Surprise Horror Hit
“Obsession” has become one of the biggest surprise horror hits of the year. Made on a relatively low budget, it quickly turned into a box-office success. Directed by Curry Barker, the film follows Bear (Michael Johnston), who uses a One Wish Willow to make his longtime crush, Nikki (Inde Navarrette), fall in love with him. The wish works, but Nikki’s affection quickly spirals into something obsessive, possessive, and absolutely terrifying.

Inde Navarrette Steals the Show
The performance from Inde Navarrette, who plays Nikki, deserves all the attention this movie has been getting. She absolutely deserves her flowers — and any awards recognition that comes her way if she’s nominated.
What makes “Obsession” work on so many levels is that, if you strip away the horror element, it feels a little too real at times. The threads and discussions I’ve seen online have been hilarious. Some people are embarrassed to admit they were “the Nikki” in a past relationship — thankfully without any supernatural spell involved. Sadly, others have admitted they’ve dealt with someone just like Bear.
The Real Villain
One thing I loved about this movie is the constant feeling of unease. It has you convinced something terrible is about to happen, and half the time you’re freaking yourself out before anything actually does.
One of the biggest debates surrounding “Obsession” is who the real villain of the story is. The same people who thought Summer was the villain in 500 Days of Summer are the same people who think Nikki is the villain in “Obsession”.

An Ending You Won’t Forget
One of the major death scenes in this movie literally made my jaw drop. When it was over, all I could do was nervously laugh because I couldn’t believe what I had just watched.
There have been plenty of horror movies with messed-up endings, but this one takes the cake. My longtime favorite has always been Frank Darabont‘s adaptation of Stephen King‘s The Mist, but “Obsession” has officially taken that crown. I couldn’t believe that’s how it ended. I just sat there laughing and saying, “Wow.”
Final Word
I know this won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s absolutely a must-watch if you’re a horror fan looking for something unsettling, uncomfortable, and guaranteed to get people talking. “Obsession” delivers great performances, genuine tension, and one of the most unforgettable endings I’ve seen in years.
I enjoyed the hell out of this movie, and I’d happily watch it again.
