If you thought Blumhouse was slowing down, think again. The horror powerhouse is expanding three of its familiar franchises into comic books, giving fans new stories from The Purge, Happy Death Day and M3GAN. Announced at New York Comic Con 2026, the new titles are coming through IDW Publishing’s horror-focused IDW Dark imprint, according to an exclusive report from Entertainment Weekly.
Comics offer plenty of room to explore the worlds established by these films, whether that means introducing new characters, digging into unexplored corners of an existing story or taking familiar horror icons somewhere the movies haven’t gone yet. We’re curious to see how much new mythology these releases bring to the table.
First up is The Purge, with writer Dan Watters (Batman: Dark Patterns) and artist Juan José Ryp (Wolverine: Blood Hunt) teaming up for a story set in a new town within the franchise’s world. Rather than simply revisiting familiar faces from the films, the comic will explore a different community forced to deal with the annual night when all crime becomes legal. Considering how much room there is to explore the consequences of that twisted tradition, a fresh setting sounds like a solid starting point.

Next comes Happy Death Day, with Tim Seeley, known for Hack/Slash, writing the comic. There’s also a little something here for fans still waiting for a third movie. IDW’s Heather Antos revealed to Entertainment Weekly that she has heard director Christopher Landon’s plans for Happy Death Day 3. The comic’s creative direction will explore connections to that potential sequel without getting in the way should the film eventually happen. Nothing here confirms that a third movie is moving forward, but the possibility is enough to keep the conversation alive.

Finally, the killer doll with a questionable understanding of personal boundaries is getting her own comic. M3GAN is also part of the lineup, although its creative team has yet to be announced. Antos has already floated one idea she would love to see explored: M3GAN showing up at prom as Cady gets older. Whether that makes it into the comic remains to be seen, but the thought of M3GAN navigating high school is certainly worth considering.
IDW Dark has already brought other movie horror properties into comics, including A Quiet Place and Smile. Adding these three Blumhouse franchises gives the imprint even more room to expand familiar screen stories.
Release dates and additional creative details for the new titles have yet to be announced. For now, horror fans have three more reasons to keep an eye on the comic shelves.
