Sometimes you hear about something that sounds like it’s going to be special. Being sucked in the rabbit hole of indie horror games on social media you come across something that demands your attention. It can be the trailer, a story point that grabs you, or the visual aesthetics. In the case of Silver Pines, it was all of the above.

The second we saw the graphic novel art style we had to know what this was, it was like staring at a Ben Templesmith (30 Days of Night) comic. The visuals were dark and foreboding

The story follows a private investigator named Red Walker. He was hired by someone to find a missing musician, Eddie Velvet. With those names alone, the neo noir vibes are aplenty. His search takes him to the almost abandoned town of Silver Pines. Where is greeted by the weary residents and people telling him he should leave. He knows these people must be hiding some well-kept secrets, but do they involve Velvet?

Soon after, hidden in the darkness, Walker is attacked by a creature that defies any reason. Something that’s born within the deep corners of your nightmares. Now this case has twisted itself into something much darker and Walker’s search for the truth will force him to confront a descent beyond his control.

Silver Pines is a game that is being compared to Alan Wake meets Silent Hill. Which is both high praise and also a tall order. Those words carry a lot of weight but also have me extremely intrigued. A 2D side scroller that looks more like a living graphic novel than a video game. The trailer alone gives me vibes of the times I was a child hiding under covers reading Tales from the Crypt with nothing but my flashlight to keep me company.
