Think you know horror? The folks behind BETTER LUCK THAN CHUCK want to see what you’ve got. The new horror comedy game show kicks off its six episode season tonight, September 24, and unlike most trivia nights, there is a pretty serious prize waiting for the viewer who can keep their eyes open.
Premiering tonight on YouTube, Better Luck Than Chuck is putting horror fans to the test with weekly challenges, genre trivia, hidden clues and plenty of ridiculousness along the way. The best part for viewers at home is that you do not have to be sitting in the contestant’s chair to play.

What is up for grabs? One lucky viewer will win a Universal theme park vacation to experience Halloween Horror Nights in 2027, with their choice of either Universal Studios Hollywood or Universal Orlando Resort. Considering how quickly horror fans can burn through an HHN night trying to hit every house, that is a pretty damn good reason to pay attention.
The show is hosted by The Widow (Alexis Allotta), the self proclaimed “Wittiest Witch of the Midwest,” alongside her sarcastic undead husband Charlie (Adam Michaels). Together, they bring the kind of weird energy you would expect from a horror game show that is not taking itself too seriously.
The contestants, meanwhile, have to make their way through “cate GORY” challenges built around the movies, monsters and moments that have kept horror fans coming back for generations. This is not simply a test of who can remember the release year of The Exorcist. The show mixes horror knowledge with comedy and nostalgia, giving the whole thing a classic game show feel with considerably more corpses.
The series is also bringing some familiar names from the horror world into the mix. Special guest question readers throughout the season include filmmaker Mike Flanagan, Chad Villella of Radio Silence, filmmaker and music video director BJ McDonnell, along with additional surprise guests from the horror community.
For a show built around horror trivia, having recognizable genre creators pop in to ask the questions is a nice touch. It also gives Better Luck Than Chuck an opportunity to celebrate the people working behind the scenes while giving fans another reason to keep watching each week.
Another really cool aspect to this show is the roundup-style podcast that happens after the game show ends. Our friends over at The DeadBeats Podcast hosted by Will and JT will take ya on a wild ride and keep ya on your toes while you wait for the next episode to drop.

The first episode arrives tonight, Thursday, September 24, at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT, with new episodes dropping every Thursday throughout the six episode season. The season finale is scheduled for October 29, when the grand prize winner will be announced.
