You look like you need a date, and we may have just found the perfect escort to take you on one seriously wild ride. FRANKENHOOKER is stepping back onto the street and looking for the next John to come along, this time in glorious 4K thanks to Synapse Films.
Frank Henenlotter’s outrageous horror comedy is getting the deluxe treatment when the Synapse Films Standard Edition 4K UHD arrives on Oct. 13, 2026. A region-free standard Blu-ray edition will also be available for fans who have not made the jump to 4K yet, giving this particular lady of the night another chance to invade your movie collection.
Originally released in 1990, Frankenhooker follows medical student Jeffrey Franken, whose life takes a spectacularly bizarre turn after his fiancée Elizabeth is accidentally decapitated by a remote-controlled lawnmower. Determined to bring her back, Jeffrey turns to his questionable medical skills and begins collecting body parts from Manhattan prostitutes, using his homemade explosive drug known as “Super Crack” to lure his unwilling donors. When Elizabeth is finally resurrected, Jeffrey discovers that getting someone back from the dead does not necessarily mean they are coming back exactly as they were.

The film became one of the defining cult horror comedies of its era by mixing outrageous gore with Henenlotter’s completely unhinged sense of humor and a twisted spin on Mary Shelley’s classic Frankenstein. James Lorinz stars as Jeffrey alongside Patty Mullen, who was Penthouse Magazine’s 1988 Pet of the Year, with Louise Lasser, Shirley Stoler, Jennifer Delora, Beverly Bonner and horror television legend John Zacherle also appearing.
Synapse Films has given the film a new Dolby Vision restoration created from the archival uncut original 35mm materials. The complete 85 minute feature is presented in 4K Ultra HD with a 1.78:1 presentation, along with a newly remastered 5.1 surround sound mix and the original English 2.0 audio.
The bonus material should make this release particularly appealing to longtime fans, with an audio commentary featuring Henenlotter and makeup effects designer Gabe Bartalos leading the lineup. The release also includes A Salad That Was Once Named Elizabeth, a Patty Mullen featurette, A Stitch in Time: The Make Up Effects of Frankenhooker, Turning Tricks: Jennifer Delora Remembers Frankenhooker, Jennifer Delora’s photo scrapbook and the original theatrical trailer.
The Blu ray edition will include the same bonus material, giving fans another way to bring Henenlotter’s wonderfully deranged creation home.
