Marvel has decided spooky season doesn’t need to wait for October.
After dipping its toes into undead chaos with Marvel Zombies and flirting with vampire territory, in BloodHunt, Marvel is now pushing things into darker, stranger waters with a brand new initiative called Midnight. And right now, that’s about all anyone officially knows.
The announcement dropped today with the kind of deliberately cryptic energy Marvel does best when it wants the internet to spiral. A title. A teaser. A warning. And then silence.
The new publishing line, Midnight, is described as a “terrifying new universe” within Marvel Comics, set to begin rolling out in Fall 2026 just in time for Halloween. The only real hint offered so far reads like something carved into a cursed comic panel:
“The light had its turn.”
That’s it. No lineup. No characters. No explanations. Just enough information to make comic fans immediately start doing what they do best, wildly speculating like they just found a long-lost issue in a bargain bin.
If Marvel is truly leaning into its darker mythology, this opens the door for characters who have been hovering at the edge of the mainstream for years. Names like Son of Satan, Sleepwalker, and anything tied to Mephisto immediately jump to the front of the conversation. Not to mention the deeper supernatural corners of the Marvel universe that rarely get more than a cameo before being shoved back into the shadows.
Marvel’s official statement keeps things just vague enough to fuel that fire:
“Stay tuned next week for more information on this all-new publishing line, including series and creative team reveals.”
Translation: stop asking questions and prepare your wallets.
The timing isn’t exactly subtle either. Horror is currently having a full-blown renaissance across comics, film, and television. DC Comics is already leaning hard into the genre with projects like the upcoming Clayface film from writer Mike Flanagan and director James Watkins, while darker reinterpretations like Absolute Batman are proving audiences are more than willing to follow beloved icons into grim territory.
For now, Midnight remains wrapped in shadow. But if Marvel is really opening the door to its supernatural underbelly, don’t be surprised if things get a lot stranger, a lot bloodier, and a lot more demonic than your average superhero comic run.
Because once Marvel starts turning the lights down, something is always waiting in the dark.
