There can be only one, but apparently there is still plenty of life left in the Highlander franchise. Titan Comics is bringing the immortal Connor MacLeod back to comic shops with Highlander: The Original Screenplay, a new four-issue series based on the original story by Gregory Widen, the creator and screenwriter behind the 1986 cult classic.
Let’s face it, Highlander is one of those franchises that can easily slip under the radar for audiences who didn’t grow up with it during the 1980s and 1990s. The McLeod clan may have survived centuries of battles, but the franchise hasn’t always enjoyed the same visibility as some of its contemporaries. With a new feature film currently in development and a fresh comic series revisiting the story that started it all, this is a good opportunity to introduce a new generation to the immortal warrior while giving longtime fans something they haven’t seen before.
There’s going to be various incentive covers and variants, so you better get those pre-orders in.

What makes this particular comic series interesting is its connection to Widen’s original screenplay. Rather than simply adapting the familiar theatrical film, Highlander: The Original Screenplay explores the original vision behind the story, offering readers another look at the mythology and the journey of Connor MacLeod.
The four issue series is written by Gregory Widen, with artwork by Szymon Kudranski. The story follows Connor MacLeod, an immortal who lives through the centuries while facing off against other immortals in a battle for a mysterious prize.
The timing is particularly interesting considering the franchise is also preparing for its return to the big screen.

A NEW HIGHLANDER FILM IS ALSO ON THE WAY
The comic’s arrival comes at an interesting time for the franchise. Amazon MGM Studios and United Artists are preparing a new Highlander film directed by Chad Stahelski, best known for his work on the John Wick franchise. Henry Cavill takes over the role of Connor MacLeod, the immortal Scottish swordsman originally portrayed by Christopher Lambert.
The cast also includes Russell Crowe as Ramirez, Dave Bautista as the villainous Kurgan, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Marisa Abela, Jeremy Irons and Max Zhang. Production began in February 2026, with filming taking place in London and Scotland before moving to additional locations in Poland and Hong Kong.

Footage from the film was presented during CinemaCon in April, giving attendees an early look at Cavill’s take on the character and the sword fighting that will be central to the new production. Cavill recently told Men’s Journal that the new film retains the elements fans loved about the original while building upon them. He also revealed that he spent approximately two years training for the film’s fight sequences.
There is currently no confirmed theatrical release date, although the film is expected to arrive sometime in 2027 or 2028. With Stahelski behind the camera and a cast that includes some recognizable genre and action talent, the reboot has certainly given the franchise a reason to get back on fans’ radar.
