As children of the ’80s, we loved waking up on Saturday mornings and watching THE REAL GHOSTBUSTERS take down some pesky poltergeists while eating our favorite sugary cereal and reenacting the episode with our Real Ghostbusters toys. That is, until our mom made us get rid of them because they were “demonic.” Thanks, Mom!
Well, besides that childhood trauma, The Real Ghostbusters has always held a special place in our hearts, and to celebrate one of the ’80s most epic cartoons, there is a major 40th anniversary party taking place in October, and we have all the details for you on how to attend. Did we mention that the kings of ’80s nostalgia bands, The Flux Capacitors, will be taking the stage to entertain all you Ghostbusters fans in style with a full one-hour set of epic tunes?
If you’re going to celebrate The Real Ghostbusters, you might as well start the afternoon with a band that understands the assignment. The Flux Capacitors will take over Dynasty Typewriter in Los Angeles on Saturday, October 3, performing a full hour of ’80s favorites from 1 to 2 p.m. Before the anniversary celebration officially gets underway, they’ll also kick things off with their own take on the iconic The Real Ghostbusters theme.

The musical connection isn’t exactly new. The Flux Capacitors have already crossed paths with the Ghostbusters universe, including a 2019 performance with Ray Parker Jr. at Ghostbusters Fan Fest at Sony Pictures Studios. They’ve also created music for Ghostbusters News and the augmented reality game Ghostbusters: Afterlife ScARe. So yeah, these guys have earned their proton packs.
Once the band wraps up, the celebration continues from 2 to 4 p.m. with Giving Back with The Real Ghostbusters: A 40th Anniversary Celebration. The event is being presented by Saturday Morning Cartoons United alongside Sony Pictures, Ghost Corps and Ghostbusters Give Back, bringing together original cast members, special guests and fans for an afternoon dedicated to the animated series.
The original voices of the show will be represented during a live script reading featuring Laura Summer, who voiced Janine, and Maurice LaMarche, the voice of Egon Spengler. Phil LaMarr will step into the role of Winston, joined by Laraine Newman and additional surprise guests.

The live reading is being cast and produced by Patrick Cotnoir, known for The George Lucas Talk Show and Hey, That’s Me! A Commentary Podcast. There will also be a screening of The Real Ghostbusters along with McBusters, an independent animated short from Myke Chillian inspired by the world of the franchise.
And because no good Ghostbusters gathering would be complete without something to take home, attendees will have a chance to check out exclusive merchandise and other surprises throughout the afternoon.
There’s also a bigger reason for the celebration beyond nostalgia. A portion of the event’s proceeds will benefit Starlight Children’s Foundation, which supports seriously ill children and their families through programs designed to bring some fun and normalcy into the hospital experience. That includes Ghostbusters themed Starlight Hospital Gowns.
The Real Ghostbusters originally premiered in 1986 and quickly became one of the defining animated shows of the decade. Four decades later, the series still has plenty of fans who remember exactly where they were sitting when that theme song came blasting through the television on Saturday morning.
And now you have a chance to relive some of that magic in person, minus the sugary cereal stains on your pajamas.

The Flux Capacitors perform from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2026, followed by the anniversary celebration from 2 to 4 p.m. at Dynasty Typewriter in Los Angeles.
