As HUGE Simpsons fans, this is a day we’ve been waiting for. The Treehouse of Horror Munchie Meals have officially arrived at Jack in the Box, and we are not even going to pretend we’re above wanting every single one of those collectible cups. Hell, we might even hang on to the boxes because, well, why the hell not? This is The Simpsons we’re talking about.
We’re still waiting to find out what this year’s Treehouse of Horror special has in store for us, but at least we now have the perfect Halloween-season fuel for when it finally arrives. Homer would absolutely approve, and considering the man once sold his soul for a doughnut, we’re pretty sure he would understand the importance of this particular fast-food pilgrimage.
The new collaboration between Jack in the Box and The Simpsons is officially available at participating locations nationwide for a limited time, bringing Springfield’s annual Halloween tradition into the drive-thru. The menu comes loaded with Treehouse of Horror-inspired food, packaging and collectibles, with the Munchie Meal of Horror serving as the centerpiece.
The meal lets fans choose between a Double Krusty Burger of Terror and a Double Chicken Sandwich of Terror, with both options accompanied by two tacos, seasoned curly fries and a drink. The real prize for collectors, however, is what comes with the meal: one of six special Treehouse of Horror glow-in-the-dark cups, available while supplies last. Each cup features its own spooky design, making this the kind of fast-food promotion that could have Simpsons fans ordering more meals than their stomachs ever intended.
Both sandwich options come with Jack in the Box’s new Spooky Simpsons Sauce, a smoky barbecue ketchup created specifically for the collaboration. The sandwiches also arrive on custom sesame seed buns inspired by the burgers seen throughout the world of The Simpsons.
Fans who want to go even bigger can choose from several Krusty-inspired menu items. The Krusty Burger of Terror features a seasoned beef patty, American cheese, lettuce, tomato and Spooky Simpsons Sauce, while the Double Krusty Burger of Terror doubles down on the beef and cheese. There’s also a Triple Krusty Burger of Terror for anyone looking at two patties and thinking, “Nah, give me another one.” The Double Chicken Sandwich of Terror rounds out the main sandwich lineup with two crispy chicken patties, lettuce, Swiss-style cheese, tomato and the new sauce.
Of course, no Simpsons promotion would be complete without a doughnut, and Jack in the Box has given Homer’s favourite food a suitably twisted makeover. The new Forbidden D’oh!nut Holes feature warm doughnut holes covered in cinnamon sugar, pink frosting and rainbow sprinkles. The treat takes inspiration from the classic Treehouse of Horror segment in which Homer famously becomes a doughnut, and even the packaging gets in on the gag.
Then there are those cups.
Six different glow-in-the-dark designs are available with the Munchie Meal of Horror, featuring characters and imagery pulled from the wonderfully bizarre history of Treehouse of Horror. Among the featured faces are Hugo, Bart’s evil twin, Krusty the Clown, Marge, Kang and Kodos, along with other spooky Simpsons favourites. If you’re a collector, good luck convincing yourself that you only need one.
The packaging itself has also received the full Treehouse of Horror treatment, including a special Munchie Meal box packed with characters and Easter eggs from past episodes. Even Jack Box gets pulled into the madness, effectively dropping the fast-food mascot into the twisted version of Springfield that Treehouse of Horror has been creating for decades.
The collaboration makes plenty of sense for both sides. The Simpsons has turned Halloween into an annual television tradition with Treehouse of Horror, while Jack in the Box has never exactly been afraid of embracing its stranger side. Now those two worlds have collided, and we’re getting to eat the results.
