THINK YOU KNOW HORROR?
Game shows have been a part of American television for decades. Hell, there’s an entire Game Show Network dedicated to them, running contestants through trivia, puzzles, prizes and increasingly ridiculous challenges around the clock. But where does the horror fan fit into all of this? Sure, you might occasionally get a decent horror question on Jeopardy! or stumble across a particularly strange puzzle on Wheel of Fortune, but those moments are few and far between. That’s where Better Luck Than Chuck comes in, putting the spotlight where it belongs: on people who know their horror.
The new horror trivia game show is making its debut this Halloween season, with the six-episode series premiering Sept. 24 on YouTube. New episodes will arrive every Thursday, giving horror fans a weekly excuse to test just how much useless but absolutely essential genre knowledge has been crammed into their brains over the years.

Hosted by Alexis Allotta as The Widow and Adam Michaels as Charlie, Better Luck Than Chuck brings together three horror-loving contestants for each episode. The competition covers the movies, characters, and memorable moments that have helped shape horror, with guest question readers pulled from throughout the genre, adding some familiar faces to the proceedings.
The format gives contestants two rounds to prove they actually know their stuff. The player who finishes with the highest score earns a trip to “Charlie’s Workshop,” where they have just 90 seconds to tear through a horror-themed scavenger hunt in search of recognizable movie items. Knowing the difference between a Friday the 13th sequel and a Halloween sequel is one thing. Finding the right piece of horror memorabilia while the clock is trying to kill you is another.
The series comes from producer Tony Wash, Screambox’s director of programming and original productions, along with Meredith Tummillo, Sarah Sharp and Robert Patrick Stern. Wash is also known for the horror comedy series Bloody Bites, making Better Luck Than Chuck another entry into his growing collection of genre projects.
The creative team has described the show as a throwback to the wonderfully weird era of television game shows, taking inspiration from shows such as Remote Control, Win Ben Stein’s Money and Finders Keepers. Rather than sticking to a standard question-and-answer format, the series allows contestants to influence some of the subjects while giving each category its own horror-themed spin.
Better Luck Than Chuck premieres Sept. 24 on YouTube, with new episodes arriving Thursdays throughout the six-episode run. If you’ve ever found yourself correcting someone’s horror trivia at a party, arguing over which movie came first or proudly knowing the name of some obscure character nobody else remembers, this might finally be your chance to put all that completely unnecessary knowledge to work.
