We don’t care for spiders. Yeah, we said it. We’ve had a small fear of the eight legged bastards for years, and you would think that being the editor in chief of a horror news site would have given us a little more nerve when it comes to creepy crawlies, but alas, we are only human and apparently still capable of being terrified by something that can fit underneath a damn door.
So when a movie called “CRAWLERS” landed in our inbox, we already knew we were going to be uncomfortable. Then we watched the trailer.
Yep, we’re going to have a problem with this one.
Directed by Ángel Gómez Hernández and written by Jayson Rothwell, “CRAWLERS“ takes one of our least favorite household discoveries and turns it into a full-blown nightmare. The story centers on Serena, played by Matilda Lutz, who manages an apartment building that suddenly becomes ground zero for a catastrophic infestation of venomous spiders.
Things get considerably worse when the police quarantine the entire building. Nobody gets out, nobody gets in, and the number of spiders keeps multiplying.

The premise gives CRAWLERS a wonderfully claustrophobic setup. An apartment building is already a confined environment, but throw a police mandated quarantine into the mix and suddenly every hallway, apartment and dark corner becomes somewhere you probably don’t want to investigate. Then start filling those spaces with venomous spiders and you have a horror movie specifically designed to make audiences start checking their own homes afterward.
Lutz leads the film, with Scott Strauss, Peter Welter, Rothwell, Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, Josh Weinstock and Alexandra Milchan producing. Andrew Schwartzberg, Jon Shiffman and Diarmaid McGrath serve as executive producers.
The trailer certainly appears to understand what makes spider horror work. It’s not just the sight of the creatures themselves. It’s the anticipation of wondering where the next one is hiding. A ceiling corner, a dark room, underneath furniture, or somewhere you absolutely do not want to put your hand. CRAWLERS seems intent on exploiting that paranoia while throwing the characters into an increasingly desperate fight for survival.
And if you already have a fear of spiders, maybe don’t watch the trailer before going to bed.
We’re serious.
“CRAWLERS” will crawl into theaters on October 16, 2026, courtesy of Roadside Attractions and Saban Films.
