If there is one thing we really appreciate about Screamfest, it is that they understand some of us actually have to work during the week. While plenty of great horror has been hitting the festival schedule on weeknights, the weekend lineup is looking pretty damn good for those of us who spend Monday through Friday pretending to be responsible adults. Now Postmortem is joining the Saturday night party with its World Premiere on Oct. 10.

Synestesys announced that writer and director Andrés Beltrán, whose previous work includes Quicksand and Tarumama, will bring Postmortem to Screamfest for its World Premiere at TCL Chinese Theatre. The psychological thriller stars Odette Annable (Supergirl, Cloverfield), Allegra Leguizamo, Julio César Cedillo (Sicario, Narcos: Mexico), Andrés Londoño (Fear the Walking Dead, Narcos: Mexico), Chelsea Harris and Tony Revolori (Scream VI, The Grand Budapest Hotel).

“From the very beginning, Postmortem stood out as something special,” producer Jason Cherubini said. “Genre storytelling that’s grounded in emotional truth.”

That combination sounds right up our alley. Horror works best when there is something human underneath all the blood, monsters and mayhem, and grief is about as human as it gets. Add a resurrection ritual, a medical examiner and a whole lot of questionable decisions, and we have ourselves a pretty interesting Saturday night.

Postmortem was produced by Cherubini, Roberto Urbina and Martín Ramos, with executive producers including Annable, Beltrán, John Harris, J. Todd Harris, Marc Marcum, Thomas Pettinelli, Tim Bunson, Luisa Velosa and Alma Hernández-Hércules.

The World Premiere of Postmortem takes place Saturday, Oct. 10 at 5 p.m. at TCL Chinese Theatre, Screen 1.

See how easy Screamfest makes it for ya? No rushing out of work, no figuring out how to survive a Wednesday night screening when you have to be up the next morning. Just get to Hollywood, grab some food, settle into the theater, and let Screamfest do what it does best: scare the crap out of us.
