We saw the building wraps during San Diego Comic Con, but we had no idea this show was going to be this bonkers. Of course, we’re talking about AMC’s new series YAGA. If that name sounds familiar and you’ve seen a few John Wick movies, you probably know where we’re going with this.
Baba Yaga is a legendary figure from Slavic folklore, often portrayed as a mysterious and frightening supernatural being. John Wick famously turned the name into something even more intimidating, using it to describe the kind of monster you absolutely do not want coming after you. Now AMC is taking that mythology in a very different direction with YAGA, and the first full trailer has finally arrived.
The eight episode contemporary mystery thriller comes from writer and showrunner Kat Sandler and stars Carrie Anne Moss, Noah Reid, Clark Backo and Hudson Williams.
The story follows Rapp (Noah Reid), a private investigator who arrives in the small coastal town of Whittock to investigate the disappearance of Henry Park (Hudson Williams), the young heir to a powerful fishing family.
What initially looks like a missing person case quickly becomes something much stranger.

Rapp finds himself dealing with local detective Carson (Clark Backo), a mysterious university professor named Katherine (Carrie Anne Moss) and a growing collection of suspects whose lives are filled with secrets. Somewhere underneath all of it sits an ancient magic that appears to have a much bigger role in the town’s history than anyone wants to admit.
The new trailer certainly isn’t hiding the show’s stranger side, either. AMC has paired the footage with Alanis Morissette’s haunting cover of Donovan’s “Season of the Witch,” which feels pretty damn appropriate when ancient magic, suspicious townsfolk and a whole lot of weirdness are involved.
YAGA is based on Sandler’s hit play and comes from Blink49 Studios and Front Street Pictures in association with Bell Media. David Frazee and Rachel Talalay serve as co directors, with Sandler also serving as executive producer alongside Mackenzie Donaldson, Andrew Miller and Carrie Anne Moss.
YAGA premieres exclusively on AMC+ October 23, with the first two episodes dropping together. New episodes arrive Fridays, leading to a two episode finale on November 27.
