It must have been hard to be a female back in the day. You were expected to cook, clean, take care of the kids, bear the children, not be a witch…oh…how’d that get in there? Well, that’s the underlying idea with the new folk horror film HERESY, and we have your first look at the trailer before the film drops.
Directed by Didier Konings, whose credits include Thor: Love and Thunder and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, Heresy takes us back to the Dark Ages, where religion, superstition, and fear could make life especially dangerous for anyone who stepped outside the lines.

OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS: In a medieval Dutch village, a young woman is caught between her faith, fanatic townsfolk and the dark forces lurking in the woods.
The story follows Frieda (Anneke Sluiters), a woman living in a small Dutch village who is doing everything expected of her. She prays, helps her community and hopes to become a mother. After a traumatic encounter in the woods, Frieda survives thanks to a mysterious presence that attaches itself to her.
Her return doesn’t exactly make the villagers feel relieved.
As strange events begin happening around the community, suspicion falls on Frieda. The villagers start questioning whether something holy saved her in the woods or whether something far darker followed her home. Before long, Frieda is accused of witchcraft, leaving her to defend herself against the very people she once trusted.
That puts Heresy firmly into the territory of religious terror and folk horror, with the film exploring misogyny, bodily autonomy, belief and what happens when fear becomes more powerful than reason.
