Another Glorious Day in the Corps, eh? It looks like we’re getting quite the new addition to the Aliens 1/6 scale catalog with the ALIEN QUEEN 1/6 figure by Hot Toys, and naturally, for those of us in the U.S., we owe our gratitude to Sideshow Collectibles.

The Alien franchise started with a haunted house in space theme that everyone talks about and blossomed into a sci-fi action thriller with James Cameron at the helm, who was still riding high on his success with THE TERMINATOR. In the first film, we just had one Alien who stalked the crew of the Nostromo, and the follow-up has swarms of them, a monarch system with the Queen and a reproductive system.

To face these unrelenting creatures was our proven hero, Ripley. This time, however, she had the aid of an entire squad of absolute badasses to protect her. With them, they had a whole arsenal of weaponry and vehicles at their disposal, and somehow, the Aliens kept gaining ground. Ultimately, it fell to a showdown between Ripley in a Power Loader and the Alien Queen.

Hot Toys is giving the Queen the royal treatment for the 40th anniversary, not as a static, predetermined-pose statue, but as an articulated 1/6 scale figure. Her specs are coming in at around 54 cm/20 inches tall and a formidable 100 cm/39 inches long from crest to tail. Just from height alone, that’s just 4 inches shy of 2 feet and 3 inches beyond 3 feet long. This is a first for Hot Toys, as they’ve given us standard-sized and slightly larger-than-standard Xenomorphs, but a Queen…..that’s new!

The ridged crest, that H.R. Giger biomechanical design, those four sinewy arms and all limbs with their own separate articulation, that translucent jaw and teeth. You can bet that it’s covered in a wet, glossy-looking surface to really make this figure come to life. The tail is also fully wired and poseable and can coil and wrap around portions of her base to protect the egg that it comes with. Her jaw also opens to reveal her inner jaw. SO much potential for posing. The base comes with the hive ground effects to complement this royal-tier figure.

You can bet that a massive figure like the Queen comes with a Queen-sized price tag of $620 USD. Though the price is high, I was admittedly expecting a much higher number. A pleasant surprise for sure. However, it’s not just the price that requires a commitment, but also the dedicated space for such a magnificent display piece.

With all this comes my concerns, which shouldn’t deter anyone, but perhaps we should be cautious. My ALIEN: ROMULUS Scorched Xenomorph still emits a strong chemical odor that not everyone may feel comfortable with. Because of that, the figure remains safely tucked away in a glass, museum-grade display case with the front door firmly closed, and with that sealed door, the odor remains at bay. That said, dare I buy the Queen Alien and the necessary display case to house her in?

Time will only tell.

Until that day comes, let’s keep on reading up on San Diego Comic-Con news. Oh, and be a bud and grab me a hard-boiled egg out of the fridge. Just make sure you look closely to grab the hard-boiled ones, and don’t be shy to lean in closely. As David would say, “It’s perfectly safe, I assure you.”
