French horror fans are getting another reason to keep the lights on this September as Film Movement Plus prepares to unleash The Night of Death! (La Nuit de la mort!) on its streaming platform. The 1980 French horror film from director Raphaël Delpard will premiere on Film Movement Plus on Sept. 18, 2026.
Set inside the unsettling Deadlock House, a secluded French retirement home surrounded by a tall iron fence, The Night of Death! follows Martine (Isabelle Goguey), a newly hired staff nurse who quickly realizes that something is seriously wrong with the facility. The residents may appear harmless and even follow a strict vegetarian lifestyle, but disappearing employees, strange behavior and an increasingly disturbing atmosphere point toward a much darker secret lurking behind the walls.
As Martine begins to investigate, the strange piano music played repeatedly by the home’s director and the violent behavior of one particularly aggressive resident become pieces of a much larger nightmare. Before long, Martine discovers that Deadlock House isn’t exactly the peaceful retirement home it appears to be, and whatever is roaming its halls has developed a rather unpleasant appetite.

Directed by Delpard, The Night of Death! arrived during the era when European horror audiences were being treated to increasingly extreme tales of cannibalism, gore and human depravity. While the film never achieved the same level of notoriety as some of the better known entries in the cannibal horror cycle, its strange atmosphere, unsettling setting and bizarre premise have helped it develop a cult following over the decades.
For horror fans who enjoy digging beyond the usual genre staples, The Night of Death! is one of those wonderfully strange discoveries that deserves a spot on the macabre movie shelf. Now, Film Movement Plus is bringing the cult favorite to a new audience when it premieres on the streaming service Sept. 18.
